As I sit here typing away, a majority of the country is seated in front of a talking picture box watching grown men throw and catch a ball. They tackle, tumble, leap, and in general, take out aggression on one another – all in the name of American Football. Sound crazy?
Not to fans. I am actually a fan. I love watching sports and I love playing even more. It just made me smile as I thought:
Of mounds of chips and cookies piled high on the table downstairs
Of the gallons of soda chilling on the screen porch
Of the numerous pizzas bought and consumed within minutes
Of the huge screen projector placed in the living room
Of the sheer number of people filling this home
Of the decibels reached when one team scores and another fails to stop the play
Of the cost of commercials during this few-hour entertainment slot
Of the dedication and craziness associated with such a sport
I also smiled as I thought:
Of how this is being used as an outreach for the college ministry
Of how we prayed before the meal and thanked God for fellowship and friendship
Of how we will read from the bible, sing to God, and pray during half-time
Of how this is a place where God can be glorified
So I sit here, smiling and thinking, as the rest of the country sits in front of a talking picture box watching grown men throw and catch a ball. =)
