fun at school

As the students entered the classroom today, I quickly finished organizing the plethora of notes and sheets lying before me. Within minutes one young boy approached me with determination clearly written across his face. “Hi,” he said, “What is your name?” I bent to reach his eye level and responded accordingly. “My name is *Joshua Dylan and I sit right there. Let me hug you.” Upon which he bear-hugged me, said “Thank you,” and promptly returned to his seat. He made me smile.

There is always one student who feels the need to “inform” the sub that this is what our real teacher does. *Alexis was just such a candidate today. At the end of every transition she kindly raised her hand and said, “Our teacher has us find words on the word wall, our teacher underlines the punctuation in every sentence, our teacher lets the leader and caboose line up at the same time…” and you see where this leads. =) At one point, ever-so-helpful Alexis called me over to whisper this in my ear, “You totally forgot to tell us what to do on our homework paper.”

You gotta love five-year-olds =)

*names have been changed

what fun.
I would've liked to have a kindergarten teacher like you, ya know.
