new seasons

There is something exciting about impending seasons. Maybe it's the change in scenery that peaks my interest or perhaps the new home decor that brightens my day. Maybe it's the splendor of God's vast imagination or the comfort of a warm cup of coffee.

Yes, I am sad that summer is over, autumn is passing, and winter will soon be upon us. Don't get me wrong, I love the snow - it's purity, immensity, and quieting calm. I love to see branches heavily laden with glistening flakes. The wonder of it all amazes me.

The cold, though? I could do without that. Shoveling? Scraping my car every morning? Freezing extremities? Whiteouts? Hazardous driving conditions? The epitome of a North Country winter consists of such activities - activities in which I am less than enthusiastic to participate.

But alas, the seasons are changing. I marked the occasion this morning by boxing up my summer clothing and dragging out my winter apparel. It's always nice to go through things - sorting, sending, lending, retrieving, packing, minimizing etc.

New seasons bring new excitements. I pray that this season will be a time of blessing and revelation for us all.
