jammin'

Yesterday, she, her parents, and I disregarded ever-rising gas prices and boldly traveled here. The purpose, you ask? These... big ones, round ones, sweet ones, blue ones.

After a day of picking, my sidekick and I lugged our fifty-eight bounds of berries to the car. Yup - you read me right - fifty-eight (58) pounds of blueberries. What does one household do with such massive amounts of berries, you ask? Everything.

Eat them fresh, make cobblers with them, put them in shakes, freeze them, make jam with them, put them in bread, bake with them... and the list could continue. My favorite? When the dead of winter is upon us and summer is a faint glimmer on a distant horizon, we pull out a bag of these precious berries and create for ourselves one incredible pie. Sometimes, it is that alone that encourages us to hang on another day. When the snow is never-ending and the cold seems unbearable, it is then that a fresh summer-picked berry pie is priceless.
