I've never seen deer along the road that I live on. My roommate claimed to see swarms of them every evening. We both come home within fifteen minutes of each other. How could this be?
Simple: She was looking for them, I was not.
I know this may seem trivial, but through it, the Lord taught me a lesson, a lesson about anticipating what he has for us (and what he has for me). We often walk through the journey of life with one line of vision - to press on toward the goal, and we never notice what we are passing by on the sides. Our focus is directed straight ahead, and while focus is not a bad thing, I believe there are times when the Lord wants to show us more, when he wants to reveal what we are missing along the way.
I never noticed the deer until I made a conscious effort to look for them. Every night since that moment, I have seen them. And not just a couple mind you, mini-multitudes of them (well - more like 10-15 each night). But you get the point. When I made an effort to seek them out, I saw them. It was not that the deer were absent before I noticed them - they were there all along. Sometimes I feel like the Lord is saying that to us. I am here for you - seek me and you will find me. Make a conscious effort to see me and you will notice I am here, that I have always been here. And even when you see me while looking straight ahead, I have more for you; I have blessings for you. And not just one or two like you might have expected – multitudes of them.
I am learning to consciously seek what the Lord has for me and I can’t wait to see what he reveals.
